Felix''s expression darkened. Xena had been taken away right after sending him that message. "Did they say why?"
"They just said they need her to ''cooperate with an investigation. But it can''t be good! Mr. Zeller, when the Disciplinary Affairs Committee shows up from headquarters, it means serious trouble. They don''t appear unless something''s very wrong." Last night''s conversation with N shed through Felix''s mind. His eyes glinted coldly. Got it."
After hanging up, he quickly called Hector, who answered promptly. "Felix, are you calling about Phoenix Warlord?"
Given Hector''s intelligence, he must have noticed something between them when Xena had asked about Felixst time.
"Yes, Mr. Downy. How serious is it?"
"It depends on how themittee ssifies it. This morning, headquarters received an anonymous tip iming that during her time as the goddess of war, Xena abused her position to help her uncle, Perry Glover, establish Goldwind Chamber of Commerce. "She also used her connections to build rtionships and curry favor for the chamber''s sake."
Perry Glover? Felix was speechless. Dragging a dead man into this seemed absurd.
"Are the allegations true, then?"
Hector''s voice grew somber. "I''ve reviewed the supposed evidence. It looks wless on the surface, but headquarters will need to investigate to determine the truth. Xena will remain in custody during the investigation."
The investigation could drag on indefinitely, especially with both Perry and his son Ted dead. Their deaths wouldplicate matters. "What if it''s proven true?"
"She''ll lose her position, and she won''t even be demoted to the goddess of war. The best-case scenario is immediate dismissal." Hector sighed.
"Felix, I can''t help with this. Even Warlords aren''t invincible. We can''t just dictate terms. As you know, there are many above us who can overrule us. I might be able to help if Xena were a minor figure, but her position makes this extremely sensitive. No one''s word carries enough weight."
Felix knew this had to be N''s doing. Only she had both the ability and motive, as proven byst night''s threat. "Could the Shadowdragon Warlord intervene?" Hector gasped a little. It showed how surprised he was when he heard Felix knowing such a powerful figure. "He might be able to."
"Thanks, Mr. Downy." Without Lionel''s contact information and not wanting to approach N, Felix would need to see Ernest first to make the connection.
The stakes were high, so it was pushing Felix to his limits. He did not regret his words to Nst night, as being manipted by her would have been far worse. "Felix," Nancy called out as he was leaving.
Felix realized he had only walked about 20 feet from the scooter since he was held back by the phone calls.
At this point, he could not pretend not to hear. "Hello, Nancy."
Turning around, he saw her by the scooter, and the female student was gone. A Porsche was parked nearby, with its driver ring at Felix with hostility.
