Chapter 634

    ?Chapter 634:

To him, she was little more than a pawn in a strategic game.

Carole’s frustration simmered beneath the surface. If it were…

That simple, she would have married Ken already. But he barely looked at her. What more could she do? Yet, she dared not voice her doubts.

“Just give me another chance, Dad. I’ll make it happen.” After all, their fortunes were intertwined. In sess, they would thrive together; in failure, they would fall as one.

“Don’t fail me,” Jax warned, his tone heavy with threat.

“Understood,” Carole replied, holding back her resentment. Once the call ended, her earlier humiliation resurfaced. She clenched her fists, her resolve hardening. She had to find a way to put Allison in her ce.

The next morning, Ken drove Allison to thepany. “We can go in together,” he said, leaning over to unbuckle her seatbelt with a gentle click.

The dim morning light streamed into the car, wrapping them in a soft, intimate glow.

Allison, still dazed from exhaustion, blinked awake, her body curled up in the plush seat like a contented, boneless cat. “No, let’s go in separately. I’d rather avoid the office gossip parade.”

Last night had left her feeling a delicious weariness — she could still feel the ghost of Ken’s touch, how he’d pinned her against the bathtub and kissed her so wildly until her lips were red and sore.

So she couldn’t just walk in there with him. She knew exactly the kind of questions that would follow — nosy, relentless, never-ending chirping. Just the thought of it all gave her a headache.

“But if you miss me, Mr. Lloyd,” she teased, shing him a yful look, “you can always send me a message.” She leaned in to brush a quick kiss. “We can have lunch together.”

Ken’s throat bobbed as he swallowed, nodding. “Alright.” His voice was a low promise.

He left first, blending into the crowd of Charisma Company’s employees as he walked through the sleek lobby. Allison took a moment before following, blending in with the steady hum of people as she clocked in, heading toward the elevators. But as she moved to press the button, a figure stepped into her path.

It was Carole, standing there like she’d been waiting for her all day. “Ms. rke, you’ve got a lot of nerve, showing up here. I get it — you onlynded this position because of your connections. But don’t let it go to your head. Know your ce.” Gone was the thin veil of politeness; her words now dripped with open disdain.

The bitterness ate her up all night, fueled by the sting of humiliation she’d suffered at Sunset Hill the previous evening.

Today, she was clearly out for revenge.

But Allison kept her cool. She fixed Carole with a level stare. “What’s this? Are you here to start something?”

Carole’s face twisted with contempt at the question. “And what if I am? You were the one who made Gordonsh out at me in the cafe. I know you must’ve egged him on!” Her cheeks flushed, remembering the scene.
