Chapter 670

    ?Chapter 670:

Jareth’s eyes swept over Ken, recalling the scene at the security checkpoint when this man had caused a fuss. In his eyes, Ken was little more than a nuisance, someone easily dismissed. But he had a suspicion that Verruckt had taken an interest in Alice, which meant Ken might be an obstacle. So, he needed to find a way to separate them.

As soon as Allison thought she could leave, Jareth suddenly spoke to the first-floor supervisor. “Mr. Shaw wasn’t pleased with the cleaning on the first floor today. I want a thorough recheck.”

The supervisor, who had been lingering nearby, stiffened at the mention of Verruckt. His demeanor instantly shifted fromx to authoritative. Catching sight of Ken, who had yet to leave, he seized the opportunity.

“You there! You’re not going anywhere. Come with me for a recheck!” he barked.

Most of the cleaning crew had already clocked out, leaving Ken as the only avable person to handle the task. Ken had stayed behind to wait for Allison, not expecting to get caught up in this situation.

Annoyed but unable to refuse, Ken reluctantly released Allison’s hand.

“Don’t worry, love. I’ll finish up quickly,” he assured her.

“Alright,” Allison agreed, perfectly aware of the game Jareth was ying, yet she pretended not to notice his ulterior motives. She just couldn’t figure out why he seemed so intent on isting her.

As she stepped out into the night, a sleek ck car rolled up smoothly to the curb. The back door opened, revealing Jareth seated inside, his expression unreadable.

“Alice, may I have a word with you? I can give you a lift home.”

Allison hesitated, weighing her options. A woman alone in a foreignnd with no reliable contacts or stable amodations wouldn’t refuse his offer. If she did, it would raise unnecessary suspicions.

“Then I’ll take you up on that,” she replied, slipping into the passenger seat with a well-practiced innocent smile. “I’m curious, what is it you want to discuss, Mr. Williamson?”

Jareth sighed heavily, shaking his head.

“Alice, that guy you’re with, he’s not good enough for you. Honestly, I could keep him tied up at the institute every night if I wanted. You deserve better.”

Jareth’s tone was oily, yered with hidden intent.

“Mr. Shaw has taken quite the interest in you, Alice. If you y your cards right, you could get into his good graces. And who knows? You could put in a good word for me too. I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of in return.”

Allison maintained her calm, though the implications were so clear that pretending ignorance would have been pointless. Still, she wore a look of troubled innocence.
