?Chapter 678:
“Could it be terrorists again?”
“Rx;st time, the explosion nearly tore the test subjects apart. Since then, Mr. Shaw strengthened the defenses.”
“Maybe it’s just a random power cut.”
Unlike the fully transparent setup on basement level two, theb on level one felt like a stretch of prison cells. Even the viewing windows were locked.
Allison temporarily abandoned her search for Lilian and instead zeroed in on theb’s surveince data system. Skillfully avoiding the panic-stricken researchers, she quickly identified the surveince hub on basement level one, using her knowledge of theyout from level two.
She pushed open the ss door and found herself in the onlyrge conference room on basement level one, where theb’s surveince was set up. At that moment, the external surveince system flickered back on.
Gordon’s voice came through her earpiece. “Allison, Jareth’s entered theb! We’ve got no ess to the internal feed.”
“I know; I’m working on it.”
Allison inserted the chip into theputer. Her pulse quickened as she watched the red progress bar crawl across the screen. It had to reach 100%.
Meanwhile, Gordon saw theputer register the chip signal and immediately began his breach into the system.
“Please, just let it hit 100%.”
His fingers raced over the keyboard, Amya’s own typing feverish with tension. The system was abyrinth of experimental data with a firewall designed like a minefield; a single wrong move could set off the rms. Tick-tock—
Seconds dripped by.
Allison held her breath, eyes fixed on the progress bar inching closer to 100%. Almost there. Just a fraction more.
Then, footsteps echoed outside the conference room.
“You’re all pathetic.”
A man’s cold, hard voice snaked through the room, instinctively chilling Allison to the core.
Allison felt a cold shiver course down her spine.
Just as the door began to creak open, she watched the chip’s progress bar pulse on her screen.
99%… 100%!
The instant the bar zedpletely red, Gordon’s voice filled her earpiece. “Allison, it’s done!”
She wasted no time. Reaching out, she snatched the chip and tucked it away as she darted into a corner. But just then, theboratory lights shed on.
