?Chapter 684:

He continued his approach, almost within arm’s reach.

Allison instinctively slipped a hand behind her, fingers brushing the hilt of herbat knife. She was prepared to fight, prepared to do whatever it took to survive this.

However, just in the nick of time, a knock sounded on the conference room door.

It was Jareth’s voice from outside.

“Boss, Subject 75 has gone feral. The team’s asking if we should administer the suppressants.”

“I’ll go take a look.” Verruckt frowned, casting onest nce around the room.

He could feel something was off, but with the test subject’s sudden outburst, he had to address it first.

The door clicked shut, and Allison allowed herself to exhale, feeling the stiffness in her limbs as she unfolded from her crouched position.

“Gordon, check the surveince. Is it clear to move?”

She had no way of knowing if Verruckt would return, but every instinct screamed that she needed to make her exit — now.

Verruckt’s presence was more foreboding than ever — an aura far darker than it had been on that deserted ind years ago. Who knew what shadows had shaped him since then?

But it was Amya’s voice that came through the earpiece. “Ms. rke, Gordon’s trying to hack into theb’s system, but… it’s tougher than expected.”

Before she could reply, Gordon’s voice broke in, low and terse. “I’m in. I can scramble their data, but only for ten minutes. After that, their security goes back up, and we’ll lose any advantage.”

“Ten minutes…” Allison murmured, considering the slim margin. “I think we need to find Lilian within that time. If we don’t act now, everything we’ve worked for goes down the drain.”

But Gordon didn’t fully agree with this idea. What worried him more right now was her life.

“Allison,” he said carefully, “listen to me. This ce is rigged with enough tech to catch a ghost. One slip, and every rm here will light up like the Fourth of July. We can’t risk this; there’s too much at stake.”

But Allison was locked onto the narrow window of opportunity.

    She had to take it.

“Gordon, patch me into Ken’s line.”

    “But Allison, you—”

“Listen to me,” Allison said firmly. “I know the risks, but we won’t get another shot like this. They’ll crank up security, and getting in next time will be impossible.”
