Chapter 742

    ?Chapter 742:

Allison’s eyes flickered with unexpected excitement, though she kept her tone light. “Alright, see you at seven then, Mr. Shaw.” She couldn’t help but suspect this was more of an excuse than a genuine reason. What could he possibly need from a house that had clearly been unused for ages?

With the documents sorted, Allison decided it was best to make herself scarce. She got up and approached the office door, only to feel Verruckt’s gazend on her, sharp and unyielding like he had a sixth sense for her movements.

“Mr. Shaw, I was just thinking of going out for a cup of coffee,” Allison said, her voice casual, though her mind raced toe up with an excuse. She couldn’t figure out what was going through his unpredictable mind.

Verruckt’s eyes, sharp and prating, lifted from his desk to meet hers, as though he could see right through her words. “Alice, don’t blow up the microwave on this floor too.”

Allison blinked, momentarily stunned by the jab. “…Okay,” she replied, thinking that was quite a blow to her pride. It wasn’t the response she wanted, but it got her out of the office.

She stepped into the hallway, ncing over her shoulder. Thankfully, it seemed the chaos from the first floor hadn’t made its way to Verruckt’s attention. The ground floor and the basement might as well have been differents. With a steaming cup of coffee in hand, Allison wandered through theb corridors.

Normally, the researchers paid her no mind, but now she noticed their stolen nces. They looked at her, then quickly turned away, their curiosity poorly masked.

This strange behavior went on for over ten minutes before Allison decided to address it head-on.

She approached the nearest female researcher, who wore a badgebeled Judith. Leaning in slightly, Allison whispered, “Do I have something on my face?”

Judith Walker flinched, startled, and immediately shook her head. “No… nothing at all,” she said hastily, then turned away, trying to hide her curiosity.

Allison raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. “Judith, you were clearly staring at me earlier. Is there something you want to ask?” She smiled knowingly, as if saying, “If you don’t ask now, you’ll miss your chance.”

Judith hesitated, ncing nervously toward Verruckt’s office before blurting out, “Did you really save Mr. Shawst night?” The question caught Allison off guard. She tilted her head, pretending to consider her answer before nodding.

“I happened to be passing by. He was bleeding heavily, so I stepped in and helped.”

At her confirmation, nearby researchers, who had been pretending not to eavesdrop, gathered around her.

Judith’s eyes widened in awe. “So it’s true? I thought it was just a rumor. No wonder Mr. Shaw seems to be in such a good mood today!”
