Chapter 811

    ?Chapter 811:

“But I don’t want to be even. I’d rather you hate me!” Colton’s voice carried a hint of desperation. If Allison despised him, at least it would mean she felt something—anything—toward him.

Now, when she said “even,” he felt as though they were going to beplete strangers.

Allison furrowed her brow. “You’re talking nonsense because you’re drunk. If there’s nothing else—I—”

“I’m not drunk,” Colton interjected quickly.

He hadn’t nned on confessing his feelings in such a disheveled state, but he feared losing his chance if he waited any longer.

“Allison, I’vee to understand what happened back then. Five years ago, you saved me, and I was wrong not to believe you. I won’t make that mistake again. Can you give me another chance?”

At this, Allison’s patience wore thin.

“Colton, you’re clearly not thinking straight because you’re drunk,” she responded, her tone icy.

“What good does knowing the truth do now? The damage is already done. Whether it was saving you five years ago or marrying youter, I did it all to settle a debt.” Allison’s words hung in the air, thick with irony.

“Remember when we were kids? We were kidnapped by criminals, and we almost didn’t make it. You were my hero then, and we promised each other forever.”

But now, that part of their memory felt distant to Colton. The old suitcase they had used to flee their captors had fallen apart the day he had proposed a divorce and driven her out of his life. Thatst piece of their shared past was gone forever.

So, what was the point of regrets now?

“Allison, I was really sick as a kid, so those memories are fuzzy. But I swear, I’ll work on bringing them back!” Colton’s words felt empty, and he knew she didn’t care about his memories anymore. But he couldn’t let go, couldn’t stop trying to fix the shattered pieces of their story.

Gazing into Allison’s eyes, Colton admitted, “I messed up. I shouldn’t have caused you so much pain or always doubted you, but please, believe that what I feel for you now is real. I love you.”

The word “love” only twisted the knife of irony deeper for Allison.

“What, you think I can just sweep the past under the rug and be your side piece?” she said, her voice tinged with bitterness.

“I didn’t mean it. I’m going to divorce Mny!” Colton blurted out, though a shadow of doubt crossed his face. “But not immediately.”

He took a deep breath, as if preparing for a leap. “Just give me nine months. I promise, after that, we’ll go our separate ways.”
