Chapter 820

    Chapter 820:

It was only then that she truly grasped how close death could feel.

No, this must be just an act, one of Verruckt’s ns, and he wasn’t really going to hurt her, she told herself.

“Move! Do you want me to end up dead here?” Her voice shook, thick with fear and urgency.

The men dressed in ck hesitated, torn between conflicting choices.

If Verruckt got away, the silver reagent he carried would vanish with him.

Without wasting time, the leader pulled out his phone and called Josh. He exined the situation in just a few words.

“So, what now?” he asked grimly. “Do we save the drug, or do we save Miss Smith?”

Fiona caught every word of the question. She was certain that her father wouldn’t abandon her.

Before long, the call ended, and the men in ck seemed to have their instructions. The leader’s face hardened, his tone icy.

“Miss Smith, please forgive us for this.”

Fiona’s anger red. “What are you waiting for? Move aside already!”

    But the men didn’t budge.

Instead, they lifted their guns, all aiming at her and Verruckt at once.

Verruckt narrowed his eyes and let out a mockingugh. “Looks like Josh is colder than I’ll ever be.”

Without hesitation, he hurled the dagger. It struck the light above, smashing it into shards.

With a loud crash, the room was plunged intoplete darkness as the light shattered.

Verruckt let go of Fiona and reached for an iron hook lying on the shelf. It was heavy but had a dangerously sharp edge.

The leader, thinking Verruckt was making a run for it, yelled at the top of his lungs, “Get that reagent back at all costs!”

Suddenly, the cold storage erupted into chaos. Sparks lit up the pitch-ck room, and groans of the wounded echoed with the crack of gunfire.

Fiona stood frozen, shaking in the suffocating darkness. It hit her then — the leader’s orders were her father’s decision.

He didn’t care whether she lived or died.

The icy air pressed against her skin, and her body began to feel weaker with every passing second. If she wanted to make it out alive, she would have to save herself.

Fiona tried to figure out where the door was. She pushed herself up, aiming to move toward it. But as the gunfight raged between the men in ck and Verruckt, a sudden noise caused someone to fire in her direction.
