Chapter 831

    ?Chapter 831:

Human experiments and shady deals with the rich had made it possible for such activities to continue. No wonder Verruckt had stayed so calm when the cops had shown up.

“We need to get moving,” Verruckt said, casting a quick nce at the heavy clouds. The moon was nowpletely hidden, leaving the night pitch-ck.

“Head to the basement and use the garage to get out. Mrs. ke will take care of the rest,” he added.

Jareth nodded. “Got it, Mr. Shaw.”

Allison followed them down to the underground garage. Thanks to Mollie’s nning, the reporters who should’ve been prowling around were all gathered at the front entrance. The back door waspletely clear.

They quickly got into the car. Allison and Verruckt took the back seat.

She nced up and asked, “Mr. Shaw, are we heading back to the research institute?”

Verruckt, eyes closed, let out a tired “Yes.” He lookedpletely drained.

Allison’s eyes drifted to Verruckt’s hand. His long fingers had an odd reddish hue, as if they were always warm. But he didn’t seem to notice or care.

The car ride was quiet, with no one saying a word. When they reached the destination, Jareth stepped out first and opened the door for them.

Back inside the familiar building, Allison noticed that the faint chemical smell of formaldehyde still lingered in the air. It felt cold and clinical, but not overwhelmingly dangerous.

She noticed that almost everyone from the second basement level was gathered there. Lena, the one who never hid her dislike for Allison, shoved past her without hesitation. She hurried over to Verruckt and asked eagerly, “Mr. Shaw, are you hurt?”

Verruckt gave her a cold stare. “You’re filthy. Stay away from me.”

Lena froze, then nced down at her clean whiteb coat. Did Verruckt think it was contaminated with germs? But the next second, Verruckt grabbed Allison’s wrist — without any hesitation.

There were smudges of blood on her hand.

Allison wasn’t hurt, though. The blood belonged to the assassins.

But Verruckt, with an unreadable expression, said, “Get the first aid kit and disinfectant. Clean it off.”

Allison pulled her wrist back calmly. “Alright,” she replied.

Lena watched the whole thing and seethed with anger. He wasn’t grossed out by the bloodstains?
