?Chapter 843:

    “Back to the office.”

Releasing her, Verruckt stood, squashing the strange emotions bubbling up inside him. Perhaps immersing himself in work would clear his mind. Or else, why would he imagine Allison taming him?

Allison nodded, her voice steady. “Okay.” She exhaled softly, relieved. Finally, she had snagged the escape route code.

Back in the office soon after, Verruckt, ever the workaholic, dove into the mountain of files before him, his face a mask, not once ncing her way. That suited her just fine. A moment of calm for Allison was rare.

The peace was shattered when Jareth burst in, urgency etched on his face.

“Boss, trouble at Eastshade Dock. Looks like someone has sneaked in!”

Eastshade Dock? Ken’s name shed through Allison’s mind. Had Ken been discovered?

Verruckt’s face hardened like ice. “I’ll handle it myself.”

Jareth’s brow furrowed with concern. “But Mr. Shaw, although your fingerprint is needed there, your injury should be—”

“It doesn’t matter. We must make sure no one disrupts us tomorrow.”

Before Jareth could protest further, Verruckt was already slipping into his leather jacket.

Allison’s frown deepened. Clearly, he was set on confronting Ken personally. She had to think fast to aid Ken.

“Since there’s nothing left on today’s agenda, I’ll head back and catch some rest,” Allison said, getting to her feet and signaling her intention to leave. “The chaos at the banquet really did a number on my nerves.”

“Fine,” Verruckt replied, handing her a sleek ck card. “There’s forty thousand on this. Treat the extra as a bonus.”

Casually epting the card, Allison responded with genuine appreciation, “Thanks, Mr. Shaw. Just make sure youe back in one piece.”

That was the key for tomorrow’s n to go off without a hitch.

    Verruckt offered aid-back “Don’t worry.”

His brief assurance surprisingly left Jareth taken aback. It seemed Alice and Verruckt had indeed be thick as thieves. But dwelling on their bond was a luxury—there were bigger fish to fry at the docks.

Once Verruckt and his squad had cleared out, Allison discreetly popped in an earpiece while strolling down the street.

“Amya, how are Ken and the crew doing?”

There was an urgent undertone in Amya’s reply. “Ken and Gordon got caught red-handed while snagging the cruise ship’s internal map.”
