?Chapter 762:
Just as he was about to leave, Verruckt spoke again.
“Also, send Alice to see me.”
Jareth didn’t quite understand why, but he nodded and left.
Once Jareth left, the office became quiet once more.
Verruckt absentmindedly ran his thumb over the scab on his lip. That woman, Alice, had dared to bite him, yet when others picked on her, she just took it without fighting back.
What a fool. His face showed no emotion. His crimson eyes were dark and unreadable.
Before long, Allison knocked at the door, her hand wrapped in white gauze. She lowered her gaze slightly and asked, “Mr. Shaw, how may I assist you?”
Today, Allison wore a ck uniform, making the white gauze on her hand stand out even more.
Verruckt tilted his head and asked, “How did you hurt your hand?”
Allison replied honestly, “I identally burned it with hot coffee.”
“You know how to use a coffee machine. How did you manage to burn yourself?”
Verruckt calmly pointed out the w in her story.
Allison froze for a moment, pretending to be surprised that he remembered such a small detail. She lowered her head even further. “It was just an ident.”
Verruckt’s voice turned sharp. “Come here.”
Allison nced at her gauze, making sure it was perfectly wrapped. But Verruckt’s thoughts were always hard to predict.
She walked over to his desk without hesitation, but kept her distance. They maintained an ufortable space between them.
Verruckt teased her, “What, are you scared of me now?”
“Yes,” Allison answered quietly.
“You’re the one who bit mest night.” Verruckt stepped closer, casually tilting her chin up. “I didn’t see you scared then.”
Allison had no choice but to look up at him. She noticed the small scab on his lips, which were still slightly red. She should have bitten his tongue off while she had the chance. If she had known subject 005 would turn out like this, she never would have shown him mercy back then.
Now, all she could do was y the victim. “That… that was just an ident.”
The moment she spoke, Verruckt gave a mocking smile.
“If it was an ident, why have you been avoiding me all day?” He leaned in, their bodies nearly touching. Verruckt’s voice was low and carried a sharp, manding tone. “You’d better stop looking down, or I’ll gouge your eyes out.”
