Chapter 871

    ?Chapter 871:

Just as she flipped to a new page in her notebook, red lights zed across theb, bathing the room in a ring glow.

“Warning! Defense system triggered!” red the automated voice, apanied by a deafening rm.

Lena whipped around, her heart racing, and saw Allison sprawled on the floor, right beside Verruckt’s safe.

“You idiot! What did you do?” Lena shrieked, her voice shaking with panic.

She could feel the weight of responsibility crushing her. As the one in charge, any blunder of this magnitude wouldnd squarely on her. If Verruckt got wind of this mess, Lena knew that she’d be the first to pay the price.

Allison stumbled to her feet, biting her lip. She looked at Lena with an expression that seemed innocent. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I was searching for the red folder and just tripped…”

    Lena’s hands trembled with rage.

“It’s in cab number three!” she snapped, quickly using her authority to shut off the rm ring from the defense system.

Allison, however, kept a close eye on everything Lena did. Outside, the researchers, rmed by the noise, rushed in.

“What happened?” Judith asked from the front. Lately, everyone had been especially on edge about the rm sounds.

If it weren’t for the high-priority experiment subjects here, they probably wouldn’t havee rushing in.

“Nothing, just a small ident,” Lena replied.

She really wanted to call out Allison for her clumsiness, but she held back, worried about getting into trouble with Verruckt. She bit her lip instead.

“Everything’s fine,” she said. “You can all go back to what you were doing.”

Judith clicked her tongue in frustration. “It better be,” she muttered.

Finding no real problem, Judith and the others left the room.

Once the door closed and silence returned, Lena shot a harsh look at Allison. “Didn’t you realize there’s a defense system here?”

“I didn’t know,” Allison answered, ying innocent. “There wasn’t anything like that when I came inst night.”

Lena’s expression darkened at her response.

Lena had heard that Alice arrived with Verruckt the night before.

Who knew what this woman was really up to? Maybe she was trying to get Verruckt’s attention.

“The folder you’re looking for should be over there,” Lena said, pointing to a nearby cab. “Go find it yourself.”

At first, Lena thought about messing with Allison, but she quickly changed her mind.

All she wanted now was for Allison to grab the folder and leave.
