    He charged at Gordon, and the two immediately shed. Meanwhile, Allison had no time to waste. Using the tall trees for cover, she fired at the enemy. “Gordon, staying alive is the most important thing!” she shouted.


    What she didn’t realize was that Gordon, hidden in the shadows, was showing a brutal side as he fought.


    “Okay, I’ll make sure I survive,” Gordon answered, his voice full of youthful resolve. A rare thrill surged through him.


    Was this Allison’s way of showing that she cared about him?


    In the next instant, he pulled out a dagger and sliced the head off an attacker sneaking up on him. Blood sprayed, but Gordon didn’t feel satisfied.


    He nned to take out anyone who got in Allison’s way.


    The storm clouds covered the moon, as if a violent storm was about to hit.


    Allison scanned the area quickly. The thick trees and uneven ground made it hard to shoot, so closebat became the only option.


    “Ken, watch out for Verruckt,” she warned while fighting off attackers. “He’s not normal. He was a test subject, with abilities far beyond the average.” She found herself surrounded by Verruckt’s men, exactly as he had intended.


    It was clear that he wanted to kill Ken right in front of her.


    Verruckt, with his silver hair and red eyes, sneered, his face twisted with a mix of mockery and bitterness. “She’s right. You’ve provoked a monster.”


    Verruckt felt as though his heart had been ripped out, leaving behind a gaping wound. He hadpletely lost his sanity after being betrayed by the woman he cared about the most.


    Hisughter rang out, filled with terrifying madness.


    “Alice, you’ll pay for deceiving me.”


    In the next instant, Verruckt charged straight at Ken. “I’ll kill you, so Alice can watch you die because of her,” Verruckt hissed, his voice cold and threatening. His animal-like eyes glowed with a cruel light in the darkness of the night.


    Despite himself, Verruckt knew he had been deceived. The thought almost made him burst outughing, filled with fury. He had opened uppletely, exposing his past, his vulnerabilities, his weaknesses to Alice.


    He had even forced himself to cut his cruise short, just to keep his word to her — to make sure he came back alive. He would have taken Alice away, even if it meant the mayor had to die.


    But when he neared theb, he saw something that shattered everything. There they were — Allison and Ken, standing together in the flickering light of the mes, their closeness impossible to miss.


    “Liar.”


    The word echoed in his head, fueling his fury. His attacks became more deadly.


    Ken fought back with nothing but his fists, blocking Verruckt’s blows head-on.


    “Even if you kill me, Allison will still win and get away,” Ken said, dodging a punch and striking back with an elbow. “She’s not anyone’s to control. I’ll make sure she stays unstoppable.”
